Common GNR Myth #1 - Chinese Democracy took 17 years to and cost 13 million dollars to make.
The Truth - While it is true that GNR hasn't put out an original album since 1991, and it is has been reported that GNR has received at least 13 Million from the record company. You have to look deeper to get the whole story.
Axl Rose and Sebastian Bach have stated that there is actually at least three albums worth of material, and GNR plan to release all three. Apparently the albums will be released with at least a year separating them, Chinese Democracy being the first.
Seeing as GNR started to work on their "next album" in 1995, and actually turned the music over to Universal Records late 2007 or early 2008, it really took just over 4 years and 4 million dollars per album.
Now, you might think that 4 years per album still sounds long. Keep in mind during this time, they also toured extensively in 2002, 2006 and 2007, it's fair to assume they weren't working on the records while touring. Then you can also factor in the delays caused by extensive line up changes. How long did Chinese Democracy really take? You decide.
